VMware 10 e Windows Update KB2995388: Not enough physical memory available

Windows 8.1 users who installed VMware 10 (Player or Workstation) and periodically keeps their system up to date with the Windows Update feature will most likely ran into the following "Not enough physical memory" issue when starting a Virtual Machine:

The reason for this error is a conflict between VMware and the KB2995388 Microsoft optional update for Windows 8.1, released between October and November 2014. The issue has been immediately noticed by the VMWare development team and they are already working on a fix to permanently solve it. Meanwhile, the best thing you can do is to uninstall the (thankfully) optional update from the system (Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Installed Updates):
